Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Hasht

What is Hasht?

Hasht is a service that creates cryptographic proof of your creative work. When you upload a photo of your work, we generate a unique hash (digital fingerprint) and timestamp that proves you had that exact file at that exact moment.

Is this a copyright registration?

No. Copyright protection is automatic when you create something. Hasht provides evidence of when you created it. If someone claims they made it first, you have timestamped, cryptographically signed proof.

What can I protect?

Anything you can photograph or screenshot: music (DAW sessions, sheet music), visual art, writing, code, videos, designs, prototypes, documents, ideas on paper - if you made it, you can prove it.

Do you store my files?

No. We only store the hash (fingerprint), timestamp, and your digital signature. Your actual files stay on your device. This means less liability for us and more control for you.

How does the email backup work?

When you create a proof, we send a copy to your email. The email server adds its own timestamp - an independent third party confirming when the proof existed. Even if something happened to Hasht, you have proof in your inbox.

What is SHA-256 hashing?

SHA-256 is a cryptographic algorithm that creates a unique 64-character "fingerprint" of any file. Change even one pixel, and the hash is completely different. It's mathematically impossible to fake.

What is RSA signing?

RSA is public-key cryptography that proves a message came from a specific source. Your proof is signed with a key linked to your account, proving YOU created it.

Would this hold up in court?

Cryptographic timestamps are increasingly accepted as evidence. SHA-256 and RSA are industry-standard algorithms used by banks, governments, and legal systems worldwide. Combined with email timestamps from third-party servers, you have strong evidence of when something existed.

What's the Redemption Challenge?

Once a month, we help one creator who's been ripped off. We work with them to prove their priority and evolve their stolen idea into something 10x better. The whole process is documented on TikTok. Follow @Hasht.

What's a Case vs Project vs Document?

Case = A briefcase for a major work (like an album, book, or app)
Project = A folder inside the case (like a single song or chapter)
Document = An individual proof (a snapshot of your work)

What's the "first to claim, not first to file" principle?

Traditional copyright requires expensive registration. With Hasht, you establish priority by proving you had something FIRST. The timestamp is your claim. No lawyers, no fees, just proof.
